How-to enable SSL in Outlook

This article tells you how to enable SSL encryption for SSL POP3, SSL IMAP and SSL SMTP in Outlook.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings…
  3. Select your email account and click Change…
  4. Change the following settings:
    Incoming mail server:  
      Enter mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your domain name.  
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
      Enter mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your domain name.
  5. Click More Settings …
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. Change the following settings:
    IMAP accounts
    Incoming Server (IMAP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection:
      Select SSL
    Outgoing Server (SMTP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection:  
      Select SSL
    POP3 accounts
    Incoming Server (POP3) – This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL):

      Checked
    Outgoing Server (SMTP) – Use the following type of encrypted connection:  
      Select SSL
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Finish

 

Our SSL ports are as follows:

  • 465 - SMTP (SSL)
  • 995 - POP3 (SSL)
  • 993 - IMAP (SSL)
